Optinet 7
On-Line Administration
OPTI-NET 7.0 makes life easier for administrators. Now there is no need
to dismount the file system to add or remove CDs, because administration
is handled on-line. This means no downtime for users!
Express Caching
With Express Caching, CD tower and jukebox users can now have hard disk
speed. And CD jukebox users can manage their CDs so that the most frequently
accessed discs have the fastest retrieval times. OPTI-NET 7 is now up
to twice as fast as the nearest competitor in delivering data to clients.
Using OPTI-NET's Express Caching, administrators can copy the hottest
CDs to hard disk and still access the CDs from the OPTI-NET volume.
Usage Reporting
Now, administrators can track the most frequently accessed CDs and devices,
then set cache accordingly. Detailed reports make it easy to manage usage
and optimize configuration.
Enhanced Graphical User Interface
Building on our industry-leading ease-of-use, OPTI-NET 7.0 adds new menu
and task bar items, making system administration even easier. The look
and functionality of the GUI is similar to the familiar Microsoft Explorer
interface. New features include:
In-Line Editing - highlight text in the GUI and change the text without
going into the properties box.
Animated Graphics - easy-to-understand status information keeps administrators
informed of all activities.
Multi-Processing GUI - enables administrators to inventory CDs, express
cache CDs, create CD groups, and alias names, all at the same time.
Multiple Views - OPTI-NET allows administrators to view by CDs, device,
group, or express cache. Now it's much easier for administrators to find
the information they are looking for.
Drag and Drop - OPTI-NET allows administrators to drag and drop items
from a source to a target destination. This feature makes it quick and
easy for administrators to manage all their CDs. It also supports long
file names as well as DOS file names.
Automated Network Recording Options
Users no longer need to record CDs directly from the server. Optional
watermarking, polling, and job scheduling features allow automated network
recording with no administrator intervention.
Watermarking - Eliminates the need for premastering. Using this method,
there is no need for clients to create CD images. They simply move the
data to a watermark directory predefined by the administrator. When the
directory fills up, Opti-Net automatically creates CDs.
Network Polling - OPTI-NET can act as a CD-R print server. The administrator
sets up one or multiple queue directories where the CD server will look
for CD-R "print jobs." After clients submit print jobs, the
server finds and automatically processes them. This eliminates the need
for administrator intervention. It's as easy as printing to a network
printer.
Job Scheduling - Administrators have the option to select a time to begin
processing print jobs in order to minimize impact on the server. For example,
an administrator can schedule 10 jobs to be processed between midnight
and 6:00 a.m., or whenever the demand for the CD-R device is at it lowest.
This feature clearly maximizes the efficiency of the CD-R storage device.
