Requirements for OPTI-NET NT

Please perform the following pre-installation system check before installing the OPTI-NET software product. Any problems encountered during this step should be forwarded to the respective manufacturers.

Windows NT System Requirements for OPTI-NET NT

• An Intel-only Windows NT 4.0 server or workstation already connected to the network or running as a standalone machine.Note: The NT machine acting as your server does not need to be dedicated to OPTI-NET.
A mouse.
• 32MB RAM minimum. We recommend 64MB.
• One or more CD-ROM storage device-SCSI CD-ROM drives, drive towers, mini-changers or jukeboxes.
• Enough SCSI and/or serial cables to properly connect your drives to the NT machine acting as your server.
• A SCSI and/or serial terminator.
• At least 128MB hard disk space for OPTI-NET cache file.

We strongly recommend that you cache if you use a jukebox or mini-changer. If you use CD-ROM drives and drive towers only, you do not need to cache.

We Recommend That You:

• Place the cache file on a SCSI hard disk.
• Place the cache file on a hard disk separate from the hard disk containing the computer's pagefile.sys file, NT's own cache file.

Server Preparation

Hardware Configuration
OPTI-NET runs on Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0 server and workstation. Please ensure that your system meets the requirements stated previously.

Device Installation:

Each device attached to a single SCSI card must have a unique ID for each device.

One or more devices you will be installing may have a serial interface requiring a unique serial ID.

Note: Depending upon your devices, a unique setting may be made up of SCSI ID number, COM PORT number and Serial number. Make sure all devices have unique settings.

High performance network solution require high quality cabling. Cabling should meet the following standards:

    • Layered twisted-pair cable with 25 wire pairs.
    • Single-ended impedance of 80-110 ohms.
    • No shorter than 30 cm (11.8 inches)
    • Does not exceed the overall SCSI bus length of 6 meters (19.7 feet).

Terminate the last device on the SCSI chain.

Power on the SCSI devices, then the server. As the server boots, watch the screen to make certain there are no errors or conflicts.

Note: Any problems encountered during this stage of the pre-installation of the OPTI-NET software should be resolved by the manufacturer documentation or manufacturer technical support.

Note: If the server fails to successfully identify the SCSI devices, please do not install the OPTI-NET software product at this time. Once the hardware conflicts and errors have been resolved, proceed with the OPTI-NET software installation.
