Requirements for OPTI-NET NLM
Please perform the following
pre-installation system check before installing the OPTI-NET
software product. Any problems encountered during this step should be
forwarded to the respective manufacturers.
Netware 3.12 Server System Requirements for OPTI-NET NLM
Server minimum requirement: 32MB RAM.
100% ASPI compatible with appropriate driver software and SCSI
interface card.
One or more CD-ROM peripherals.
SCSI cables and terminators.
OPTI-NET Installation Disk.
One Netware volume to be used
as the OPTI-NET "Database" volume.
During installation specify this volume as your "Database" volume.
This volume must be:
4K block size.
300 MB free disk space for OPTI-NET caching.
128 bytes additional
space for each CD-ROM file and directory to be added to the OPTI-NET directory
structure.
Note: To calculate the amount of additional overhead,
multiply the number of files and directories on all your CD-ROM by 128
bytes.
For example, if you have 10 CD-ROMs with a
total of 9900 files and 100 directories, multiply ((9900 + 100) x 128).
You will need approximately 1.28 MB of additional space on Volume (hard
drive). One NetWare volume to be used exclusively by OPTI-NET. Volume must
meet the following requirements:
64K block size.
Recommended 256 MB of disk space.
128 bytes space for each
CD-ROM file and directory to be added to the OPTI-NET directory structure.
To calculate the amount of additional overhead, follow
the formula above.Note: NetWare only allows you to use 50% of a volume's
capacity for file/directory information. If you are creating your
BASEPATH volume solely based on OPTI-NET overhead, set the percentage
of volume space used for file/directory information to 50%. To do so,
modify your autoexec.NCF file to include:
Set Maximum Percent of Volume Used By Directory = 50
Allocate double the amount of free disk space required by
OPTI-NET. For example, if you estimated OPTI-NET files and directories
will require 50 MB of disk space, make certain your BASEPATH volume is
100 MB.
NetWare 4.1 System Requirements for OPTI-NET NLM
One or more 100% ASPI compatible adapters with appropriate
driver software.
One or more CD-ROM peripherals.
SCSI cables and terminators.
OPTI-NET installation disks.
One Netware volume to be used as the OPTI-NET Database volume.
128 bytes additional space for each CD-ROM file and directory to
be added to the OPTI-NET directory structure.
To calculate the amount of additional overhead, multiply the number of
files and directories on all your CD-ROMs by 128 bytes. For example, if
you have 10 CD-ROMs with a total of 9900 files and 100 directories, multiply
((9900 + 100) x 128)). You will need an additional 1.28 MB of available
disk space.
One Netware volume to be used exclusively by OPTI-NET. Volume must
meet the following requirements:
256 bytes space for each CD-ROM file and directory to be added
to the OPTI-NET directory.
To calculate the amount of additional overhead, multiply the number of
files and directories on all your CD-ROMs by 256 bytes. For example, 10
CD-ROMs with 9900 files and 100 directories, multiply ((9900 + 100) x
256 bytes). You will need an additional 2l.56 MB of available disk
space.
256 MB free disk space for OPTI-NET caching. This is the
minimum value.
OPTI-NET will use any available disk space on your BASEPATH volume for
caching. Therefore, if you want to increase the size of your cache, increase
the amount of available disk space.

Preparation:Hardware Configuration
OPTI-NET runs on Novell NetWare 3.12 and 4.1. Please ensure that your
system meets these requirements.Device Installation:
Each device attached to a single SCSI card must have
a unique ID for each device.
One or more devices you will be installing may have a serial interface
requiring a unique serial ID.
Note: Depending upon your devices, a unique setting may be made up
of SCSI ID number, COM PORT number and Serial number. Make sure all devices
have unique settings.
High performance network solution require high quality cabling.
Cabling should meet the following standards:
Layered twisted-pair cable with 25 wire pairs.
Single-ended impedance of 80-110 ohms.
No shorter than 30 cm (11.8 inches)
Does not exceed the overall SCSI bus length of 6 meters (19.7
feet).
Terminate the last device on the SCSI chain.
Power on the SCSI devices, then the server. As the server
boots, watch the screen to make certain there are no errors or conflicts.
Note: Any problems encountered during this stage of the
pre-installation of the OPTI-NET software should be resolved by the manufacturer
documentation or manufacturer technical support.Note: If the server
fails to successfully identify the SCSI devices, please do not install
the OPTI-NET software product at this time. Once the hardware conflicts
and errors have been resolved, proceed with the OPTI-NET software installation.
