ADAPTEC AVA-1505
Installation must be done
through DOS for Windows 95. All conflicts in Windows appear to be I/O
conflicts. This card is NOT to be used with Novell NetWare. Novell considers
this a VERY LOW END card. The card is NOT Plug & Play, and has a installation
process that should only be done by a technical person. Although the AVA-1505
shows up on the compatibility* list, the board can NOT be easily installed.
Windows 95 does not recognize the card at all on boot after installation,
and does not even know that there is a new device present. This means
it can not be installed by Windows 95 standard conventions. In short,
there is a trick to installing the board.
(Important footnote at this point; never use IRQ 9. If
you do it will crash the PC to the point that the card must removed and
Windows 95 must be reinstalled.)
This installation is a long
process. To get the Windows-protected mode drivers installed, that is
to have the card show up in the device list in the system menu in control
panel, there are two separate installations that need to be done. If ease
of installation is an important consideration, this is NOT the card for
you. Caution should be used in recommending this card. Users must understand
the installation procedures below. *The compatibility list mainly refers
to cards and devices that will work with the system not plug and play
compatibility. These devices have drivers They are usually found by the
system when upgrading from Windows 3.11.
INSTALLATION
On boot of windows 95 machine
hit F8 and bypass all Windows startup features and choose command prompt
only. Run the setup of EZ-SCSI from the A:> and let it detect the card
and CD-ROM drive. To install Windows-protected mode drivers, you choose
add new hardware and then do not let Windows detect the drives us the
Windows 95 disk to add the hardware from the device list.
Never use IRQ 9. This will crash the operating system
and reinstallation will be necessary!
